Margarita The Margarita must surely be one of the world’s best known and instantly recognisable cocktails and has become synonymous with Mexico and its food and drinks.

The generally accepted account of the invention of the Margarita accredits Don Carlos Orozco, bartender at Hussong’s Cantina in Ensenada, Mexico who invented it in October 1941 and named it after Margarita Henkel, the daughter of the German ambassador who he claimed was the first person to taste it.

An alternative and more probable account is that the Margarita is merely the popular prohibition cocktail called the Daisy (Margarita is Spanish for daisy) made with tequila instead of brandy.

The Margarita is made with tequila, triple sec, and lime juice it is served in large glasses full of ice which are  finished with the cocktail’s signature salted rim.
